YouTube Music

YouTube Music is a streaming service developed by YouTube, a subsidiary of Google. It offers users access to a vast catalog of music tracks, albums, playlists, music videos, and other content related to music.

YouTube Music provides a platform for watching and listening to music videos, enhancing artists' reach and revenue potential. Through YouTube Music Key, your songs are automatically matched with album cover art, known as "Art Tracks," enabling you to earn money when these Art Tracks are streamed. With a global audience of over one billion unique users per month, YouTube Music Key offers unparalleled opportunities to connect with fans worldwide.

The service offers ad-free, audio-only playback for uninterrupted background listening and offline access. Subscribers also enjoy a bundled subscription to Google Play Music, boasting a vast library of over 30 million songs, expert-curated playlists, and upcoming integration for viewing official YouTube music videos directly within the app.

By delivering your album to this channel, it becomes available and monetized on the YouTube Music Key service. This extended distribution ensures broader reach and additional revenue streams, even if your music videos are already on YouTube.

More About YouTube Music

When you distribute a release to YouTube Music, it appears on YouTube as an "Art-track." YouTube Music presents all distributed content in Art-track format. Essentially, for every single, EP, or album distributed to this channel, it will be published as an 'auto-generated' video utilizing the Cover Art of the release.

By default, YouTube Music distributes the release to one of three channels:

  1. "Various Artists - Topic" (e.g., Various Artists 1, Various Artists 2)

  2. "[Artist Name] - Topic": This channel is automatically created by YouTube, housing all auto-generated videos from a single artist.

  3. Your personal channel: YouTube prioritizes the synchronization of auto-generated videos on your channel."

What is an Art Track?

YouTube Music Art Tracks are automatically generated audio tracks paired with static images, which are referred to as "Art Tracks." When an artist or their representative sends a release to YouTube Music, an Art Track is automatically created on YouTube. This Art Track consists of the audio recording of the song along with an image generated by YouTube. The image is typically derived from the album cover associated with the song.

The Art Track is composed by combining the sound recording, the album cover art, and all the metadata entered into the platform by the user, such as the artist name and album title. These Art Tracks serve as audio releases on YouTube, allowing users to listen to the music without an accompanying video.

Art Tracks are distributed through YouTube Music's platform, making them accessible to users on both the YouTube Music app and YouTube Premium. Additionally, they may appear in various channels and playlists curated by YouTube. These Art Tracks are specifically tailored for YouTube's streaming service and music products.

YouTube Shorts

YouTube Shorts is a feature for creating and watching short vertical videos, up to 60 seconds long, similar to TikTok and Instagram Reels. It's designed for quick, creative content discovery and sharing.

Track Availability

Availability of Tracks in YouTube Shorts:

Not every song is featured in the YouTube Shorts music library, primarily due to requirements mandated by music publishers. For a track to be included, the music publisher, who owns the song rights, must consent to its inclusion.

Criteria for Track Availability:

  • The music publisher must have entered into a Shorts agreement with YouTube.

  • The track must not be prohibited for use in shorts by the music publisher.

  • The track must be playable in all regions where YouTube Shorts is accessible.

Deliveries

To meet the Content Commitment's key requirement for YouTube, improvements have been made to the behavior of YouTube Music (YOUA) and YouTube Content ID (YOUC) feeds, resulting in the following characteristics.

Delivery to YouTube Audio Content ID requires delivery to YouTube Music as well. However, delivering solely to YouTube Music is possible. Therefore, selecting YouTube Audio Content ID will also automatically select YouTube Music.

Assets in YouTube Content ID must have a corresponding asset in YouTube Music. To meet this requirement while providing flexibility to end-users, the system allows the following actions:

  • It is possible to request takedowns for YouTube Content ID without generating a takedown for YouTube Music. This allows end-users to conduct takedowns exclusively for YouTube Content ID while retaining their content in YouTube Music.

  • Takedowns for YouTube Music will simultaneously trigger a takedown for YouTube Content ID if deliveries were processed for both channels.

To ensure compliance with all YouTube requirements, updates to YouTube Music now also prompt updates to YouTube Content ID.

Reports

YouTube Reports for musicians provide analytical insights into the performance of their music content on the platform. These reports offer data on metrics such as views, watch time, audience demographics, revenue generated from music content, and engagement with their music videos and channels.

Through YouTube Reports, musicians can track the popularity of their songs, identify trends, understand their audience demographics, and optimize their content strategy to reach a wider audience and maximize revenue opportunities.

In the Sales > Analytics section, there are three channels.

  • YouTube Music: This channel serves as a distribution platform for music content on YouTube. It doesn't directly display monetization figures as it's primarily a communication channel. However, it's integrated into analytics to track music sent to YouTube channels.

  • YouTube Art Tracks: This channel is associated with monetization and shows the benefits generated within the YouTube Music application. Art Tracks are automatically generated videos paired with music, often using cover art.

  • YouTube Content ID: This channel also involves monetization and displays the benefits derived from third-party use of distributed music on YouTube. Content ID aids in identifying and managing copyrighted content on the platform.
